7 come 11

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 | Author:

Mickey and I took a little fishing trip today for the first time since March 7th. We started off missing bites, mostly on topwater baits. We had 7 before we caught the first fish.  We ended up catching 5, with the largest being 7 – 11.  Most were caught on a swimbait. Mickey lost one that size on a Bangolure. On for a few seconds then spit it out.

Fishing again I hope

Monday, March 23rd, 2009 | Author:

It took 10 straight days to get my two turkeys out of the way, after letting one walk on the opening day. Now before another turkey hunting excursion to South Carolina, at least one day of fishing. Mickey and I have one planned. I understand it took 26 pounds to win the tournament in Lake Ferguson this weekend. No word on how it was won but I’d bet the winner was flipping the fuzzy trees. A picture from this morning.

Enid and etc

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 | Author:

I’ve been turkey hunting for the last 9 days and have not been fishing. In fact, this is the first time in that time my computer has been on. I HAVE received some reports however. Hal went to Enid and caught 20, mostly on a  DT fat in the parrot color. He had 7 or 8 in the 3 to 4 pound range if my memory serves me correctly. In other news John Eddleman killed a turkey in Franklin County. I let one walk on the opening day. Hope that does not come back to haunt me. I did kill one Wednesday but they have been whipping me ever since. Getting ready to go back for more.  If I can get the turkeys out of the way, I can get back to fishing.

Hal and Richard at Beaverdam

Today they both caught a fish over 7. Hal’s was 7 1/2 pounds and is pictured here Richard’s had too many teeth to get his picture taken being as he was a grinner. One other bass caught.

I also heard today that Bill Watts and Bill Walker came in 9th in the tournament in Lake Washington this weekend. Congratulations to them!

I’m having a spam attack on the Bitespot and while deleting some spam posts, deleted some good ones too. Sorry for the screw up.

Continuation

Saturday, March 07th, 2009 | Author:

The slow start continues.  Today at Little Eagle Mickey and I found a 3-11 that hit a swimbait to stave off a skunk. A hit on a Ribbit and two other swimbait bites were all we could muster.  The other people we talked to were having difficulty too.  It’s a beautiful lake and reminds me of Beaverdam. Just got the photo of the skunksaver. I need a hair trim.

Fish tales

Friday, March 06th, 2009 | Author:

I heard two fish stories today that may be of interest. First, Sam Shackelford called to tell me some person caught a 15 pound bass in Caddo Lake near Shreveport. The photo was on the front page of the Shreveport paper.

The other story came from Hal. He heard two Memphis men went to a public lake in North MS and caught an unbelievable bunch of bass on crankbaits. The largest was 12+ and there were several over 10. The average of the 10 largest was 10 1/2 pounds. All released. One of the men guides on the side. I have an agent working on finding the name of the lake.

Swim bait

Friday, March 06th, 2009 | Author:

I used a Bass pro 4 1/2 inch Luck-e Strike swimbait to avenge my zero yesterday. I caught one 3 3/4   and one 5 1/4. Wind was terrible. Had to use my auxillary trolling motor (a rope) to be able to fish.

Take a zero

Thursday, March 05th, 2009 | Author:

We used to have a teacher in Jr. High that would say “Take a zero” if you didn’t know the answer to a question or didn’t do your homework. I took one this afternoon in the Garhole.  Only a few pecks for bites.  By the time the afternoon was over the following baits were on the deck: 1/4 oz Booyah, Bagley killer B2, DT-10, DTF-3, worm, Jig with a trailer, Poe’s crankbait, and last but not least a jointed shadrap. Nothing worked. Best thing about the day was I saw two bald eagles. I also saw this. You will need to click on the picture to blow it up so you can see him/her. Would not let me, nor did I want to, get too close.

Taff is the man

Sunday, March 01st, 2009 | Author:

A follow up on yesterday’s post.  Taff e-mailed me this morning, saying they caught 11.  The largest 5 weighed 26.11. A 5 1/4 pound average. Quite an impressive group of fish. At least I caught 1 that size.
