Garhole 11/15/09

The water temp started out this morning at 59 and at 2 when I quit was 63 degrees. Things looked bleak again early because the only fish I could get to bite were those 8 to 9 inchers, that are there by the thousands, and could not catch any of them. Four foot visibility still and that makes things difficult. Didn’t go to the best spot right off the bat because I was trying to find out what makes the rest of the place tick. I did manage to catch two or three on Rapala DTFs 3 and 7. They were in open water and feeding on shad. Lucked up and saw a bass chase a shad, hummed one of thoes DTFs over there and caught one. After that I fancast around the area and managed to pick up a couple more. When I went to the good spot I caught none on the swimbait that I had good luck with the other day. I tried the DTF 3 and when it ran through some weeds and I snatched it out, one busted it. Caught one more there. I kept seeing some shad activity on the other end of the small channel I was on so I ventured down there. That hole is 15 feet deep in the middle so I used a DTF7 around the steep edges and caught 4 nice fish in 15 minutes. Went back to the good spot and caught a couple more on a worm, but even the three pounders were biting like tighteyes. Finally I sat right on top of the spot and just shook the worm at them until they would bite. That’s how I caught the rest. I ended up with 16, three over 3 and a FOD of 3 – 10. Since the water is so clear the bass are a pretty dark green color. Not only did they have a beautiful appearance they also had a great flavor. Two fell in my 11 to 13 inch slot for keeping for the table and I have dined sufficiently.
Thanks John. Tell it!
